The People in Hannah Starkey’s (b. 1971, Belfast, Northern Ireland) film-like Photographs don’t do much. They live in freeze frames of daily Life, buried in thought in Cafès, on the Street, public Toilets while doing their Hair. What seems to be like spontaneous Narratives of Urban Life, Race and Gender, densely filled with Identity Issues, are carefully staged and composed Still Pictures.

With exhibitions in Galleries like Saatchi in London, the Irish Museum of Modern Art and Schirn Gallery in Frankfurt Hannah Starkey is often said to be one of the most influential Photographers of our Time.
