thanks a lot to ramon and the piston magazine team for their invitation to contribute to their great blog.
just a few words about me and my work: i am a self-taught artist, photographer, whatever from the black forest, born on halloween night ‘76. instead of an academic art education, i spent my whole puberty in the local video rental store and watched an odd mélange of science-fiction and horror movies. inspired by the early works of hooper, craven, carpenter and lynch i made my first attempts in terms of photography with an old, crappy plastic camera. the horror- and b-movie consumption also led me to the (still fascinating and frightening) finding that there’s always evil lurking behind the facade of unspoiled beauty.
as a commodore c64 kid i am used to digital technology – but i try to manipulate and destroy the slick surface of digital production processes with self-built lenses. the result is a blurred, diffuse and sometimes even psychedelic look.
i am always looking for feedback – so feel free to contact me and check out my works at www.alexanderbinder.de
